Pandemic-Related Assistance

Ensuring clients received the stimulus payments and pandemic relief they were eligible for and accurate information about vaccinations

Early in the pandemic, we saw many clients were eligible for pandemic-related stimulus payments, unemployment benefits and/or child tax credits, but for various reasons did not receive all or some of that money.

In the fall of 2020, we created a special outreach project to determine which clients were missing payments and provide them with the start-to-finish help they needed to ensure that the money arrived. When the resolution required a filing with the IRS, we teamed up with the tax clinic at Cornell’s Dyson School of Applied Business and Management to provide clients with the free assistance. That collaboration led to a pilot project to provide our clients with free tax preparation and advising.

As vaccines became available, we worked to ensure our clients had access to accurate information about vaccinations, and helped them identify where and how to get vaccinated.

“Our students at Cornell have enjoyed the unique opportunity to apply their education, training, and spirit of community service in helping After Innocence clients obtain the pandemic-related benefits they are entitled to.”
