We recruit experienced lawyers to help clients resolve post-release problems and make sure they do a great job

Individuals released after wrongful incarceration face numerous hurdles in rebuilding their lives, including:

• bad credit and debt collection issues because their arrest and incarceration left them unable to keep paying student loans, credit cards, or other debt; 

• identity theft, which impacts many people who are incarcerated;

• family law issues, including custody determinations that were based on the wrongful conviction; 

• appealing denials of public benefits, including social security and disability; and 

• setting up wills and health care directives.

Any After Innocence client can call us any time for legal help. We help clarify the issues, gather the documents and recruit a great lawyer in the client’s community, with solid experience in the relevant area of the law. 

Where possible, we staff these cases through our many partnerships with legal clinics (e.g., Harvard Law School’s Federal Tax Clinic) and regional and national law firms; in other cases, we recruit lawyers on an ad hoc basis. For clients who can afford to hire an attorney, we help by vetting a few good lawyers for the client to choose from and ensuring the client is paying a fair fee.

Either way, we stay available to support the client and ensure the representation stays on track.
